The Origin of Species: Lizards in an Evolutionary Tree, a short film, is now available

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has released a new short film, The Origin of Species: Lizards in an Evolutionary Tree, featuring Jonathan Losos. Shot on location in the Caribbean, Losos demonstrates the traits that enable dozens of anole species to adapt to different vertical niches in the forest. The film is part of the Biointeractive series of resources for science teachers and students.

Jonathan Losos awarded Daniel Giraud Elliot Medal

Jonathan Losos received the Daniel Giraud Elliot Medal from the National Academy of Sciences. Losos is recognized for his research on adaptive radiation of Anolis lizards, the subject of his recent book Lizards in an Evolutionary Tree: Ecology and Adaptive Radiation of Anoles.

Joanna Larson received a Fulbright Grant

Graduating senior Joanna Larson from the Hanken Lab received a 2011-2012 Fulbright Grant for her research project "Decoding Species Complexes of Amphibians and Mammals in the Mountains of Tanzania." She will be collecting small mammals and frogs in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania to assess biological diversity and describe cryptic species.
