Julius Tabin
Julius graduated with a dual BA in Biology and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (Egyptology track) from the University of Chicago in 2022. During his time there, Julius worked in Dr. Neil Shubin’s lab, using single-cell sequencing techniques to investigate the development of fish fins, exploring evolutionary adaptations to life on land. Beyond that, he also developed his own project to analyze the morphology of ancient Egyptian hieratic, the cursive form of hieroglyphs, using optical character recognition. Prior to his undergraduate work, Julius studied the genetic basis of temperature preference in Astyanax mexicanus, the Mexican Tetra, for seven years. Julius’s main interest is in behavioral genetics and how it can illuminate the complex workings of animals.
